Linear Drain Aco 12Do you plan on remodeling your home in 2012? According to the Remodeling Futures Program at the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University, home remodeling spending should pick up throughout the year after a slow start.

As the real estate market begins its recovery overall, the home remodeling industry should pick up as well. The Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies expects home remodeling spending to increase five percent through Q3 2012 to $113.6 billion. As more homes are sold in today’s market, there are more opportunities for home improvement projects.

The Leading Indicator in Remodeling Activity (LIRA) graph shown above estimates spending on home improvements for the current quarter and the following three quarters. As you can see, the first quarter of 2012 is the lowest point over the past couple of years, but a solid increase between now and the third quarter is expected to put the industry back where it needs to be.

This is good news. My husband is in the construction field and we’ve been very slow as far as business goes. Hoping for a huge surge in the number of homeowners who are remodeling.
